Active Attacker Response Program

The safety and well-being of our Penn State communities is the number one priority, not only for University Police and Public Safety, but for the entire University. We work hard to keep our communities secure places to work, learn, and grow. Despite our efforts, we recognize that no community is immune from the threat of violence. Whether the violence is directed at our institution and its members, or occurs within our communities, we must do all that we can to prepare ourselves for the possibility of an attack.

University Police and Public Safety has robust policies and procedures in place for active attacker situations, and officers train regularly for such potential circumstances. However, it is important that community members take the time to familiarize themselves with Penn State’s Active Attacker Response Program and the Run, Hide Fight model, designed to provide options to help you survive an attack before police arrive.

Seconds count in dangerous situations, especially the first crucial moments as police are responding to the scene. Being able to think clearly and act quickly and decisively is vital if faced with such an emergency.
